Everyone loves to have a little read to how these small businesses are born so here is my story…..
I started out my working days, after travelling around Australia & New Zealand, in the corporate world, I had some fantastic opportunities along the way & made friends for life.
After our first son was born, I returned to work, but part time & something totally the other end of the scale from the norm for me, a well known cheese company, Dorset Blue Vinny. I loved my time here with the lovely Emily Davis & her truly great team who make & sell delicious products, not just cheese, chutney’s & soups too! If you haven’t tried their products, pop them on your shopping list to try (you will also find them in my hampers too!) it’s certain they will all become regular items in your fridge! Homemade fresh soup from the lovely kitchen ladies, of course with added blue in some for lunch on the winter days made for an added bonus! Not to mention huge team efforts when doing shows & festivals…..memorable days for me.
It was time for maternity leave for me so it was farewell to the Dorset Blue Vinny team……
With now having 3 son’s & loving, almost, every minute of being a full time Mum & they certainly keep me on my toes! My coggs were getting a little rusty so it was time to get them moving again.
I joined the team of Oxfords’s Bakery, Alweston. This little original bakery oozes traditional history & certainly a real family business with Steve Oxford, now the 4th generation of his family continuing the bakery’s journey which started back in 1911. The passion & ambition of this chap who is full of character to say the least towards his family business is certainly one to be admired. This bakery certainly is a true artisan hub, everything that comes from here is made with traditional recipes & values. My favourite is an avocado on sourdough for lunch or on a naughty day a helping of Dorset Lardy Cake, goes perfectly with a cuppa!.
With always a niggling ambition to have & grow a business of my own, not under estimating the amount of work it entails, the timing had to be right not just me but for my whole family. I love to be there to support my children, attend sports days & of course those memorable nativity plays that we all remember for years to come when our child is the one dressed as the donkey, & just those school drop off’s & pick up’s, they aren’t too jolly in the rain but I love to see them wave goodbye for another day of fun learning & look forward to those growing smiles at the end of each school day!
So, both Dorset Blue Vinny & Oxfords Bakery have both worked their magic on me & opened my eyes to the foodie wonders of Dorset & Somerset. There are so many amazing products that are made with love & passion within all of these small businesses, far too many to go into even the largest wicker hamper I can find! I have spent many hours carefully selecting my favourites to share with you & hoping you will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed creating them, either by giving as a gift or treating yourself.
I would love for you to be part of my journey by taking a look at the hampers that are on offer & seeing just how many delicious products are made on our Doorstep, across Dorset & Somerset!
There you have it, Two Counties Hampers is born…..Deliciously Different Gifts for Family, Friends & Business!
